This week, I created my first trailer using iMovie. While I've had limited experiences using iMovie in the past for various class projects, I have never utilized a trailer template to create a video before. Because most of my files were more readily available on my computer, I chose to use iMovie on my MacBook Air. Overall, I found the application effective and easy to navigate. One of the nice features of iMovie is the ability to drag and drop content into a quality pre-made template. While it did take some time to select the content I wanted to include, once I uploaded it, the process was very simple. The Storyboard outline made it incredibly easy to change the text of the trailer and create a final product. One critique I do have is the ambiguity regarding saving projects. I would have appreciated a clearly identifiable "Save This Project" button. Although there is a share button that allows you to export your iMovie to a variety of file formats, it's somewhat disguised. After putting in a significant amount of time and effort into creating a trailer, it is frustrating when the most confusing part is figuring out how to save the project properly. While realistically I don't see myself creating trailers for my assignments (I would rather dedicate the time I would spend making the trailer to lesson planning), I could see this being an assignment in and of itself for students. By creating a simple rubric, students could create their own trailer about key concepts learned in a course. In a one-to-one school I think it would it would be realistic and engaging for students. Feel free to check out my video below! Class Chef is definitely something I would love to do with a food science / nutrition class. Let me know what you think! Feel free to check out my YouTube channel in the future as well.
