This week we discussed a project known as Notecard Confessions. This began primarily as an online trend on YouTube, as the medium provided an outlet for people to anonymously share their stories through video. The basic premise is to condense your story to a short, readable format, and share it nonverbally through a series of cards. There are some really moving ones on the web already. It's a pretty powerful means of storytelling!
For my "Notecard Confession" I put together a brief video sharing part of my faith journey. It shares a little bit about emotional difficulties I have faced and how Jesus has given me hope through them. Overall, it was very easy to make with the use of my laptop and iMovie. I shot the video directly from my webcam, imported it to an iMovie project, added a song from my iTunes library, and faded out the volume at the end to create a finished product. As I think about this from a teacher perspective, I see how this could be a very powerful assignment for students, but I'm not sure how it would tie into my content area very well. I think it would be most effectively in an english or communications class to discuss the power of story, establishing an effective plot, and the effectiveness of written communication. Feel free to share ideas of how you might fit the into your classroom, and check out my example video below!
